Walls and Time

The material of the pool hall is reinforced concrete. The 240 cm thick wall is weakly reinforced, and in itself meets the requirements of building physics. Like the respiratory organ, it contains installation shafts in its mass. The mass of the wall is deepened. The thickness of the wall becomes the depth of the space. Stepped niches are created as a counterbalance to the spatial unity of the hall. They are extroverted towards the interior, introverted towards the outer space.

The sports center building consists of a dominant volume of the pool hall and a subordinate, partially buried volume of the building with an entrance, changing rooms and a fitness area. Under both volumes there is an underground garage.

The opposition of the pool hall and the external appearance of the volume is translated into a material language. The interior is lined with ceramics, and the exterior facade is in rough natural concrete, with the exception of the smooth surface of the stair niches.

The ceiling construction of flat prefabricated beams through its laws follows the principle of mass deepening. The beams are shortened, their height is reduced and they create ceiling niches that illuminate the hall. The lightness of the ceiling reduces the resonance of the hall.

The mass of the wall created the fantasy of the "time of the wall". Fantasy multiplies the depth of niches to infinity.
